Dear loved ones, I came across this poem that I had written several years ago after we had buried my youngest brother G……. He died from a strange illness that destroyed his brain and caused him to seize non stop for hours at a time. It was terrible for him and for me, since I was the one with him in hospitals and travelling from one location to another to try to find out what was happening to him. He was my baby brother and we loved each other very much.
The poem is written about my other brother D……, who is also younger than me. We used to be very close growing up and in our young adulthood. Because of religious differences, which I wrote about in the blog post, “Letters that ended it all” , he no longer would associate with me. The following poem was written on the day we buried my brother Gregory.
Thank you for reading my blog today and I love you all very much. Hugs & Kisses, Summerhill Lane
Ode to a brother
Now don’t be hurt
And don’t be sad
He’s not the only brother you’ve ever had
You’ve lost one before
You can do it again
It’s a game
She knows the rules
Now don’t be hurt
And don’t be sad
They aren’t the only sisters you’ve ever had
You lost one before
You can do it again
And again
And again
And again
She’s made her bed
Now she can lay in it
Now don’t be hurt
And don’t be sad
She’s not the only parent you’ve ever had
You’ve lost one before
You can do it again
This is your last supper
In testament
Now don’t be hurt
And don’t be sad
He’s not the only brother you’ve ever had
He’s not the only brother you’ve ever had
He’s not the only brother you’ve ever had
He’s not the only brother
He is the only brother you have.
Touching…I lost my only sister after my dad passed away, to put it bluntly, we could no longer see eye to eye.

Thank you for liking my painting Gentleman Dave and also the poem. I had questioned myself whether I should write a blog about this terrible sadness because maybe it was not a good time considering world troubles, but we are all in this together and loss and love are almost the same in a sense. ❤️to you.

This is heart-rending! I guess no words can ease the pain of losing a loved one but life is such. We ought to walk on. All my wishes and that is a beautiful painting.
